Ghost Bikes
Steve Allen, a road safety campaigner, has since 2003 pursued an ambition to highlight the dangers for cyclists on British Roads. Through contacts in America, he became involved with 'Ghost Bikes', a campaigning group which now operates in 43 countries. The project involves the placing of white 'ghost bikes' at the sites of cyclist fatalities. Over 100 have been placed in the UK, however many have been removed by local councils.
With around 130 cyclists killed on UK roads last year, it is an important issue, and the work of Ghost Bikes is most commendable.
